Letter from our founder:
The reason for starting The Sustainability Club is to drive positive change within the fashion industry. As you undoubtedly know, the fashion industry is one of the most polluting industries in the world. Countless products are created every day and each product makes an impact on our world.
I have worked in fashion for over ten years and I have seen a lot. I have seen how traditional fashion companies operate and how much impact they have. But I also see a growing desire for change within the industry. Companies want to change, but often they do not know how and where to start.
Throughout my career and as a CSR-manager I have gained a lot of knowledge and experience on sustainability in fashion. I decided it was time to make an impact and start my company to help fashion brands develop their products in a sustainable way.
I want to share this knowledge with as many people as I can.
By working together we have the power to change the fashion industry!
Responsible and sustainable sourcing.
We love beautiful fabrics and we love the environment. In our sourcing practices, we strive to combine these two.
We source materials with a lower impact than conventional fabrics. We look for certified options and for suppliers with an outstanding environmental impact and chemical management policy.
Fur, exotic leather, angora, mohair and conventional leather are on our non-sourcing list because of the high-risk on animal abuse. We have cruelty-free options instead.
Ethical and fair working conditions.
"There is no beauty in the finest cloth if it makes hunger and unhappiness."
This is our favourite quote from Gandhi. It describes perfectly how we feel about fashion. We source for skilful production ateliers that abide by international labour standards.
We strive to find out as much as we can about the working conditions and we visit the ateliers as often as we can. We have a zero-tolerance policy on child labour, forced labour, excessive overtime and gender-based violence or harassment.
Applying smart design principles.
We have a holistic approach to design. We think about which materials make sense for the type of product that we are developing (considering the lifespan of the product and microfiber shedding) and we design for longevity.
We love working on zero-waste and circular projects.
A Tree For Every Product
Trees are a natural solution to climate change.
We are asking much from our planet with our global demand for products. Everything that we make requires resources and energy and emits carbon into our air.
Trees take carbon out of the air and lock it away. We want to take care of our planet, nature, animals and people. Therefore, The Sustainability Club plants a tree for every product that we develop.
CSR consulting for fashion companies
Fashion companies are required by the OECD guidelines to perform due diligence: risk analysis of the supply chain, investigate the actual impact and plan a course of action to remedy any negative impacts found. An important step is to formulate and embed a human rights policy.
We have experience with working on CSR strategies with the Dutch Agreement on Sustainable Garments and Textile and Fair Wear Foundation.
