ABOUT NYNKE EGGEN, SUSTAINABILITY CONSULTANT IN AMSTERDAM
I'm Nynke Eggen, founder of The Sustainability Club in Amsterdam. I help fashion, lifestyle and consumer brands with sustainability strategy, green claims, due diligence, reporting and training. I'm a GRI Certified Professional with a background in product development and CSR management in fashion companies.

I've done the work I now advise on
STARTED AS
Zero-waste fashion designer
I ran my own zero-waste fashion label, with stockists in Amsterdam and Utrecht. Zero-waste means the pattern uses the full width of the fabric and leaves no offcuts. For me, sustainability began as a design question about the whole system.
THEN
Product developer
I worked through every step between a first sketch and a finished product: sample planning, fabric sourcing, technical specifications and quality checks. It showed me how many people and materials across the supply chain are involved in one garment.
THEN
CSR manager
I learned to embed CSR practices and frameworks in an existing organisation, alongside a production and supply chain that was already fully set up. That is where I learned how to uncover risks, and which steps lead to real improvement.
SINCE 2018
Independent consultant
I founded The Sustainability Club, at first teaming up with freelance experts per project. Today I work as a solo consultant and have supported over 25 brands, from start-ups to multinationals. Along the way, writing and communication became a large part of my work: a strategy also has to be written so that people understand it and use it.
I look at the product first: what it is made of, where and under which conditions. For brands that sell physical products, that is where most of the impact sits.

Compliance should be quick and strategic, so your time goes to the work that reduces your impact.
What I believe in

People
The people who make your products have a right to dignity and safe working conditions. There are several ways to improve them, and which one fits depends on your supply chain and the influence you have in it. Good, long-term supplier relationships make this work a lot easier.
Materials and production
For brands that sell physical products, most of the environmental impact sits in materials and production. This is where you can really move the needle. So that is where I look first when we set targets and work out a strategy.
A healthy business
Growth doesn't have to come only from selling more products. It can mean better margins, lower risk, new revenue streams or a stronger position with customers who ask for proof.
I won't make a brand seem further along than it is. I will tell you where you stand, and which steps get you there.
Who I work with
I work with fashion, textile, lifestyle and consumer brands that are serious about doing the work.
Some come to me to avoid legal risk or public scrutiny. Others want to reduce their impact well beyond what the law asks. Most want a bit of both, and all of these are good reasons to start. Whatever the starting point, I help you reduce impact where it counts.
The brands I do my best work with don't see compliance as the finish line. Some go further and change how their part of the industry works. I call them future heroes: people and companies who recognise their part in what needs to change, and act on it. I'm proud to play a small part in that, and I'd love to do the same for your company.
How I work
Directly with me
You work with me directly. I have worked inside fashion companies, so I know the limits you work with: time, budget, and attention that is already spread over many projects. My advice is practical, in plain language, and made to be used.
Materials and production
If it helps a project, I go and see where products are made. With one client I spent twelve days in China visiting the entire supply chain, including the hemp farmers. Or I ensure the team has everything they need for their next supplier visit.
Speaking, moderating and events
I speak and moderate at industry events and inside companies. In-company sessions help teams understand what is happening in the industry, what new rules mean for them and where the sector is heading. I have also organised events from start to finish: the programme, the speakers, the moderation and the communication.
